Mediterranean native used as a culinary herb and medicine for menstrual cramps. Should not be handled by pregnant women. Traditional in Lithuanian weddings, and attracts butterflie s. This plant is ancient and widespread in its usage by humans, famously described by Pliny the Elder in combination with (poisonous) oleander as a snakebite cure around 65AD, and illustrated in the Tacuinum Sanitatis, an 11th century health handbook. Foliage and blooms are also lovely and it's great as a flower garden ornamental, and it has symbolic and protective significance for Sephardic Jews. Show more
