Rugged Robot is our first ever programmable robot designed for outdoor use! Rugged Robot offers a variety of options for kids to navigate through different terrains, such as sand, grit, dirt, and grass. The robot comes with 3 settings and can be controlled using a free tablet app or the TTS TacTile reader, thanks to its Bluetooth functionality. With a memory capacity of up to 256 steps, it can easily complete complex tasks. Moreover, it features an obstacle sensor that can detect and avoid obstacles by reversing and rotating 45 degrees before continuing its program. Boasting Bluetooth functionality and designed for robust challenges, Rugged Robot can be controlled via tablet, iPad or the TTS TacTile Reader. With a memory of up to 256 steps, Rugged Robot will be able to carry out the most challenging of activities. With 3 speeds, students can set how fast the robot moves. It also boasts an obstacle sensor which can be turned on and off to prepare students to the more complex programming that lies ahead. The obstacle sensor which can be turned on and off will detect obstacles in front of the robot and reverse and rotate 45 degrees before carrying out the rest of the program. The Rugged Robot is rechargeable via USB and takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge. Fully charged the Rugged Robot will have approximately 1 hour of battery life. Lets get Technical: Take Rugged Robot Outdoors: Rugged Robot is outdoor friendly with big wheels so that it can be used on sand, grit, dirt and grass. Children can choose from 3 settings according to terrain. Movement: The new control panel on the Rugged Robot uses a 45 degree turn that will help to extend children’s learning from the Bee-Bot’s 90 degree turn. Why not use Rugged Robot when introducing angles to look at simple angles in shapes? With a longer travel distance of 20cm, you can take Rugged Robot on longer journeys. Why not set your children a challenge, how many moves to travel one metre? Teach children about procedures using the built in obstacle sensor (which can be turned on and off). It will detect obstacles in front of the robot within 10cm and reverse and rotate 45 degrees before carrying out the rest of the program. Bodywork: You will never be caught out in a lesson with a ‘flat’ Rugged Robot. With the LED charge ring, children can be responsible for making sure that Rugged Robot is always at full charge. With a built in camera mount holder, children can see their route through the eyes of Rugged Robot. Connectivity: With Bluetooth functionality, you can wirelessly control your Rugged Robot with your tablet (Android and iOS) or the TTS TacTile Reader (see accessories page). The App is ready to download and can even be used to change the name of your Rugged Robot. The Computing Curriculum Rugged Robot can be used across all age groups to develop computing skills in: Learning and exploring directional language Exploring, testing, designing and writing programs Debugging of programs and solving problems Decomposition in programs Using procedures in programs and working with variables Writing and exploring algorithms Prediction of the behaviour of simple programs Use of logical reasoning to explain how algorithms and programs are working.
