The running martingale, sometimes referred to as "rings" or "ring martingale" is probably the most widely used design today. It passes from the girth up the centre of the horse's c hest, and the reins are passed through the ring at the end of each strap. A neck strap prevents the martingale from swinging about. When correctly fitted, the martingale exerts downward pressure on the mouth if the horse lifts it's head above the angle of control.
