As we watched model after model walk the catwalk, I realised there really aren't many memorable runway songs that capture the confidence, attitude, glamour, and cheeky swagger of the fashion world. That got me thinking, so I decided to write one myself. The song also draws from my own brief experience in modelling when I was sixteen years old. I appeared in a television commercial for a jeans company, but quickly realised the industry wasn't for me. I never liked being told who I could associate with, what I should eat, how I should look, or how I should behave. Nobody controls me, so I walked away. Years later, that experience helped inspire the confidence and attitude that drives “Runway.” The Story Behind "Runway" “Runway” is written from the perspective of a fearless supermodel who owns every room she enters and every runway she walks. The character is bold, confident, unapologetic, and larger than life. While the song playfully celebrates the glamour of high fashion, it also pokes fun at the ego, competition, and larger-than-life personalities that often exist behind the scenes. I wanted it to feel like stepping backstage moments before the spotlight hits and then strutting onto the catwalk as if the entire world belongs to you. The Music and Vibe Built around a driving dance-pop beat, confident vocals, and runway-style attitude, “Runway” blends fashion-house glamour with pure pop energy. The track is designed to feel powerful, stylish, playful, and larger than life. From the opening backstage countdown to the final victorious chorus, the song captures the confidence of owning the spotlight while the cameras flash and the crowd watches every move. Finding the right singer for this track proved almost as important as writing the song itself. I knew “Runway” needed a vocalist with attitude, confidence, and a youthful tone that could convincingly bring the character to life. There was no point putting a middle-aged voice on a song about young supermodels walking the world's biggest runways. After nearly five months of searching through my usual singer acquisition channels and listening to countless demos, I finally discovered Nonni McKenzie. The moment I heard her voice, I knew the search was over. She had exactly the youthful energy, confidence, and personality I had been chasing, and her vocal performance brought the song to life exactly as I had imagined it.
