Banknote 1909. Blue-black on blue and multicolor underprint. Eagle at the top center. Vertical format. Series УА -148 Back - Dark gray on blue; multicolor underprint. Watermark Val ue. During the Czar's rule, Russian rubles were one of the world's highly valued currencies as they were backed by serious stockpiles of gold. During the Bolshevik Revolution, most of that gold was shipped out of Russia, so the Soviet rubles did not have much value. It did not matter anyway as the Soviet rules kept a fixed rate of the ruble. In 1993 Russian government removed price fixing, but it continues to intervene in currency markets to keep the value of rubles at a lower rate than it actually is to stimulate Russian export producers.
