I have taken what I have observed and I designed these nesting boxes to accommodate the needs of a hen when she's ready to lay.The design incorporates many elements that have proven very successful over the years. The Approx 20 tall x 16 x 14 " size works very well for all chickens They are super simple to install ... just screw them to the wall or set them on a shelfThey are easy to enter so the chicken feels comfy using themThey offer privacy which chickens seek when they are in the mood to lay their eggsThey have a slanted top to discourage roosting on top so you don't end up with a nest box covered in poopThey are designed so the eggs don't roll out but are easy to pick upAnd of course, they have a great rustic homesteader look too Each box is fully pre-assembled here however, due to the size constrictions for economical shipping items may require some light assembly requiring only a screwdriver.
