S.W.A.T. is a 2003 action crime thriller directed by Clark Johnson, released August 8, 2003 by Columbia Pictures. Based on the 1975-76 television series of the same name, the film was written by David Ayer and David McKenna from a story by Ron Mita and Jim McClain, and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, LL Cool J, Josh Charles, Jeremy Renner, Brian Van Holt, and Olivier Martinez. The film follows Sergeant Dan "Hondo" Harrelson, who is tasked with recruiting and training an elite new Special Weapons and Tactics team in Los Angeles, including demoted officer Jim Street looking to redeem himself. The team's first major assignment becomes far more dangerous when an imprisoned drug kingpin offers a $100 million reward to anyone who can break him out of police custody during a routine prison transfer.
