Layers of pure gold leaf and cut-out gold leaf (gold leaf sprinkling) are applied. Pure gold paste adorns the eyes, beak, and feet, while white areas feature water-dried gypsum white (suihi gofun) and crystal pine. Moss is rendered with genuine lapis lazuli. Pigments and paints were meticulously selected to express the artist's vision. Furthermore, the black background was hand-painted in layers to enhance the brilliance of the gold.
