There are many types of figure often seen including curl, bird’s eye and quilted grain patterns. Maple works well with both machines and hand tools. However, it is quite unforgiving when planing against the grain and is prone to burning if your saw blades or router bits are dull. It doesn’t get any more Canadian than this! With so many varieties of figure and dependable creamy color, this wood is a favourite for sure. The hardest of the maples and the tree that gives the sap to make tasty maple syrup.
