"The inspiration for the new Safety Occupational Badge is the Star on the enlisted chevron. The center of the Star on the chevron has been enlarged into a Globe representing world-class Airmen accomplishing the full-spectrum Safety mission. The Star and Globe are boldly featured as the hub supporting a taut, circular Chain. This signifies sound, risk management principles being the foundation for broad, synergistic mission effects. As the enlisted chevron is open above the Star, so the Chain remains open alluding to the safety mission of Preventing Mishaps, i.e. identifying and removing the link in the mishap chain of events."
