A backup for the moment something lets go. When you run a double winch-ring setup with the line passing through twice, a safety catch sling is cheap insurance. It is there to catch the line if a shackle or the winch line itself fails under load, keeping loose gear from becoming a projectile. Rigging is simple: run a double loop soft shackle through the eyes of the sling, then loop the sling around a solid axle or part of the frame. Now if the primary connection fails, the sling contains it.
