Saicho Sparkling Hojicha Tea is a rich non-alcoholic sparkling tea made with roasted green tea from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Grown at approximately 200 metres altitude in the country’s largest tea-producing region, this Hojicha is made by roasting second flush Sencha green tea, turning the leaves a deep reddish brown and creating its signature toasty, nutty flavour. The Hojicha style dates back to 1920s Kyoto, where roasting tea became a way to bring out warmth, depth, and savoury character. Saicho cold brews the tea for 24 hours to draw out its full-bodied texture, dry woody tannins, and layered aromatics. With notes of rich wood, blackcurrant leaf, orange blossom, nori seaweed, roasted hazelnut, and delicate smoke, this non-alcoholic sparkling tea works beautifully with sushi, roasted duck, mushroom risotto, mushroom purée, grilled eggplant, and umami-rich dishes.
