Italian-born Saint Anselm was a 12th-century Benedictine monk who later becameArchbishop of Canterbury, England. He was an insightful teacher, philosopher andtheologian, and wise i n the ways of political governance. He also defended the church’s freedoms, which were under attack at the time.
