Christopher was a 3rd-century Christian; a "carrier" by trade, who transported goods and people safely across a river. Legend has it that one day, a young child asked to be carried . Christopher was overwhelmed by the surprising weight of the child, but pressed on. He was then told that he carried Jesus Christ, who bore the whole weight of the world.
