The Saint Michael Shield Necklace is a sterling silver pendant cut in the shape of a shield, carrying Saint Michael the Archangel, whom Christian tradition names captain of the heavenly host. He stands at the center in relief, wings open to either side, with a small cross set at the heart of the shield. Around him runs the Latin inscription Quis Ut Deus, meaning Who is like God, the words that give Michael his name and the challenge he threw at the rebel angels. Shield, cross and inscription state the same claim three ways, which is why the medal is worn for protection and as a confession of faith.
