“Sakura” marks a shift toward more figurative work. Using my custom-built plotter, I explore new ways of working with a brush, focusing on the stroke itself. The machine follows a complex path generated through brushstroke-specific G-code, translating the intricate form of a sakura tree into movement. The natural subject contrasts with the rigid logic of the system, creating an unexpected tension that drives the work. Each piece takes around one day to complete. With this series, I set myself the challenge of developing an algorithm that can paint blossom trees more realistically over time. Each release is a new iteration: I refine the algorithm, generate a new version of the tree, and use that version to create a new series of paintings. Sakura 01 was the first iteration. Sakura 02 is the second. Sakura 03 will build on what I have learned from the previous versions. Over time, both the algorithm and the paintings continue to evolve. The Sakura series is a record of that development.
