Salifert Silicate Test Kit The Salifert Silicate Test Kit is a fast aquarium test kit for measuring silicate in marine, freshwater and garden pond water, with low and high scales for different aquarium applications. Silicate Testing for RO/DI Water and Diatom Troubleshooting Silicate can enter aquariums through tap water or purified water when an RO or DI unit is not performing properly. Elevated silicate can contribute to diatom blooms and may interfere with certain trace elements, making this kit useful for source-water checks and aquarium troubleshooting. Salifert Silicate Test Kit Features Fast, sensitive silicate test for aquarium and pond water. Includes an ultra-low scale that is especially useful for marine water. Includes a high scale suitable for freshwater environments. Sufficient for approximately 60 tests. Can be used for marine, freshwater and garden pond water. Useful for checking RO/DI performance, source water and diatom bloom concerns. Helps identify silicate before it contributes to nuisance diatom growth. Testing Notes and Warning Erroneous results may occur when carbonate hardness is higher than 20 dKH, which corresponds to an alkalinity of 7 meq/L. Normally aquarium carbonate hardness is below this level. Warning: Keep out of reach of children. In case of skin contact, wash with plenty of water. In case of eye contact, rinse eyes with plenty of water and consult a physician immediately. Si-1 and Si-2 are acidic and Si-3 contains a reducing agent. Not for consumption. Directions Follow the current instructions included with the kit. Use clean testing equipment, avoid reagent contamination and compare the result under good lighting. When troubleshooting diatoms, test both aquarium water and source water to help determine whether silicate is entering through top-off or water-change water.
