Made by NasonMoretti, on Murano, since 1923. Samarcanda takes its name from the ancient city on the Silk Road, where Persia, China, and the Mediterranean once met. The form has bee n chosen to match: a generous, soft-shouldered body that tapers to a slender neck - the proportions of a vase made to hold something brought back from a journey. The surface is worked in balloton, the small-diamond optical pattern that Murano furnaces have used for centuries. Each indentation traps the light differently, and the colour pools at the base of every cell. The pattern is not decoration laid over the glass. It is the glass.
