Samos Cooperative Winery (EOS Samos), founded in 1934, unites the island’s winegrowers in preserving one of Greece’s most historic winemaking traditions. The vineyards are planted with the renowned Muscat of Samos on steep, hand-tended terraces at elevations of up to 900 metres above sea level. Limestone, schist and rocky mountain soils, combined with abundant sunshine and cooling Aegean breezes, produce grapes of remarkable aromatic intensity while retaining vibrant natural acidity. The cooperative follows integrated and sustainable vineyard management to protect this unique island landscape. Samos Anthemis 2017 is a naturally sweet fortified wine made exclusively from Muscat of Samos (Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains). Fermentation is carefully arrested with grape spirit to preserve the grape’s natural sweetness before the wine is matured for five years in oak barrels, developing exceptional depth and complexity. Layers of dried apricot, orange marmalade, honey, figs, raisins, caramel and sweet spice are balanced by fresh acidity and a long, elegant finish. It is an outstanding partner for crème brûlée, almond tart, blue cheeses, dried fruits and roasted nuts.
