When Kate started doing live broadcasts, no one knew it would open the door to a permanent friendship with a beader in DENMARK! Gitte, our beloved Facebook Live moderator, has long volunteered her time to help us out here at BSDC, and we are always looking for ways to show her our gratitude. Asking her to concoct a Monthly Mix seemed like one more way we could let her shine!Gitte knew right away what her inspiration would be...a beloved cat, Samson. A true companion, this cat was something special! He would wait for Gitte to come home from work, perched on a windowsill, watching for her arrival. Social, loving, and missed...Samson passed away in 2015. When Gitte sees orange poppies in Copenhagen, she is reminded of Samson and knows that he never really is gone. When asked how we can help honor Samson, Gitte asked if we would donate to World Animal Protection, an organization helping to bring awareness to the suffering of animals. BSDC is donating $1 from the sale of every Samson Monthly Mix to World Animal Protection. If you would also like to help, you may donate here. Gitte has earmarked the donations from beadshop to help the abandoned kittens left behind in Denmark after the summer residents leave and go home. Samson is a mix of 8/0 Miyuki Seed Beads hand picked by Gitte. Perfect for an Odd Count Peyote Ring or used in a Peyote Stitch Cuff, these colors are soft yet bold. You can find many ideas of what we’ve done with past Monthly Mixes here.
