Sandela is perhaps the most important of all the sandalwood aroma chemicals. It is very light in odour strength but it is extremely long lasting, sweet and pleasing to pretty much everyone. Sandela's odour profile is creamy, nutty and sweet. It is a beautiful material to work with and every perfumer should be using it. Sandela can be used in an overdose as the main Sandalwood chemical in a blend (and it is not IFRA restricted so you really can go crazy with it) or in very small amounts for its fixative properties. Note that it may be difficult to smell initially if you haven't used it before, but in time you will develop the ability to smell it (much like Galaxolide and other very heavy molecules). Because Sandela is very viscous, Givaudan sells it with a 15% addition of IPM.
