The heartwood has a medium to dark reddish-brown colour, characterised by a well-defined ribbon striped figure on quartered surfaces. Somtimes, when wavy grain is present, a very a ttractive fiddleback figure, roe figure or occasionally, beatuful mottled figure is obtained.
