This vase is part of a series entitled Sapphic Vases, which draws inspiration from ancient illustrated Greek amphorae and vases. While numerous examples of these artifacts depict g ods and heroes in homoerotic relationships, representations of female same-sex desire are virtually absent. As with many experiences excluded from the historical record, their absence has contributed to a broader cultural invisibility. Through this series, I seek to reinsert these narratives into the visual tradition and, in doing so, to contribute to the construction of a more inclusive collective imaginary.
