The Monkey Pod originates from the Lecythis elliptica, a large nut producing tree found in the Amazonian forests. This species is closely related to the tree that produces the Ourico Pods! The term “Monkey Pod” is said to derive from a monkey baiting technique where the empty nut is filled with fruit; a monkey would be able to insert its paw but unable to remove it.
