But for Ava, a 10 year old dancer with so much spunk and energy who was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF), the journey has been anything but ordinary. In fact, this diagnosis affects fewer than 100 people in the world, leaving doctors and families struggling to find the information, resources, and treatments they desperately need. Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcona (SEF) is a rare soft tissue cancer. One of the most difficult aspects is the lack of treatment options. SEF is chemo-resistant, meaning traditional chemotherapy doesn’t work on it. Radiating the tumor is not an option either, as it’s in a sensitive area where radiation could cause irreversible damage. This leaves Ava and her family with limited options—and even fewer answers. As Ava fights this disease, the financial strain has been overwhelming. Medical bills, travel for specialized treatment, and the need for ongoing care have placed an incredible burden on her family.
