This weight is for use with sash type windows which are counterbalanced by a weight, sash pulley, and sash cord. To balance a sash window, the combined weight of the counterweights should be equal to the sash's actual weight. If you can't get exact counterweights, then It's better to use slightly lighter counterweights to prevent the sash from opening on its own. The sash weight attaches to the sash cord by running the cord through the weight's hole and tying a knot on the end of the cord. The knot is held in a cavity on the underside of the weight.
