Its short overall design gives you a quick, clear response without the overreaction you can sometimes get from a longer leveraged bit. The longer purchase helps create a more collected feel while still allowing the mouthpiece to do the communicating. This makes the SC-77 especially useful on a strong horse with a sensitive mouth. You can get their attention when you need it, then soften your hands and get back out of their way when they respond. For a barrel horse, that means better communication when asking for rate, collection, and response through the turn without feeling like you have to pull every stride. Another bonus: with most mouthpieces, the SC-77 is interchangeable with the SC-7 cheek. Keep the mouthpiece your horse already likes, and switch between the longer purchase of the SC-77 or the longer shank of the SC-7 depending on the feel you need.
