Plaster cast of a finely detailed scallop shell. Well scaled and a clean, sharp example of the naturally occurring delicate and symmetrical fanned fluting. Historically, a symbol a ssociated with Venus, Goddess of love, who rose from the sea on a scallop shell, as in Botticelli’s ‘The Birth of Venus.’ Dimensions (cm): Width 11.5 x Height 10 x Depth (max) 3. To the rear, hand-initialled and stamped with the Alexander Griffin maker's mark and fitted with a brass 'D ring' for wall hanging from a single screw / nail / hook.
