This piece is a physical representation of what depression and anxiety looks and feels like. The mind is filled with overwhelming thoughts of worry and pain and often times depression and anxiety can lead to restlessness, isolation, and withdrawal. The woman in this piece shows the outward pain and struggle as well as the overbearing inward thoughts of falling apart shown by the many words on the page. The definitions to the left are jumbled and out of alphabetical order to show how scrambled and unstable the mind becomes once depression and anxiety take control. Many times, it seems, people feel defined by these conditions, but it is important to realize we are never defined by the things that destroy us and threaten to take our happiness.
