Silver gelatin photograph from the series ‘Nijinsky and the Ecstasy of the Divine’, a collaboration with dancer Aleix Martinez in 2014. The photographs were made in Hamburg Germany . This photograph was inspired by Nijinsky's characterisation of his flirtatious character in the ballet 'Scheherezade'. About the Photographs A passion for Vaslav Nijinsky and a desire to express the wonder of his genius (and complexity of his humanity) inspired this work. 'Nijinsky and the Ecstasy of the Divine' is a series made in collaboration with dancer Aleix Martinez in Hamburg Germany in 2014. John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet performed Nijinsky in 2012 in Brisbane Australia. There I saw a young dancer perform the role of Stanislav Nijinsky. He was mesmerising. In that moment I decided he was the one to work with to create this series. Synchronicity led to the meeting that made the series possible. Without costumes or sets, this is an exploration of essence. Scheherezade - the flirtatious favourite slave in the ballet of this same name.
