Schwarzer Tanzer was written for Christopher Boatwright one of the first black dancers with the Stuttgart Ballet. Boatwright wanted a piece of music that could be choreographed, Ni gel Wood wishing to avoid ethnic music clich̩s (despite the title, which means black dancer) created this Germanic style fusion of Weil and Oompah band.
