Malachite is a copper carbonate; its banding is growth structure, layer on layer deposited in the cavities of copper deposits, which is why polished pieces show rings and eyes. Moonstone. Moonstone is a feldspar; its floating glow, adularescence, comes from light scattering between microscopically thin layers inside the stone — the light is not on the stone, it is in it. Black Onyx.
