Screen printing is a method of printing that involves forcing the printing ink through a finely woven mesh onto the fabric using a squeegee. You can use paper or cling film (cut to A5) to create the template. On the areas of the fabric where no ink is to be printed, according to the pattern, the openings of the mesh are made impermeable to ink using a paper stencil. Water-based, saliva-resistant, washable to 40 °C, and soft to the touch. For light-coloured fabrics free of finishes and fabric conditioners (max. 20 % synthetic fibre). After drying, fi x in the oven (150 °C/8 minutes), or iron for 3 minutes without steam. Stir paints before use and clean tools in water after use. Includes 1 screen, 9.8 x 7.4 inches, 1 squeegee, 3 x 100ml printing ink (black, magenta, and cyan ) HOW IT WORKS:Screen printing:1. Transfer the motif to the stencil material and then cut it out using the cutter. 2. There are two options for stencilling: a negative and a positive stencil. With a negative stencil, the lines and shapes of the motif are cut out. These areas will be white afterwards. The rest will be printed in colour. With a positive stencil, the lines and shapes of the motif remain and the other areas are removed. 3. Stick the stencil to the flat side of the screen using adhesive tape.4. Position the screen on the side of the fabric to be printed. The flat side of the screen rests on the fabric. If letters are used, they should now be readable through the screen and not back-to-front. Apply a line of ink approximately 1 cm wide to the top edge of the screen.5. Use the squeegee to spread the ink over the motif from top to bottom without pressure. Make sure all areas to be printed are covered in ink. The screen is flooded. Next, draw the squeegee over the motif from top to bottom applying even pressure. This transfers the ink to the fabric. Carefully lift the screen off the fabric. Re-flood the screen with ink after each process. When the printing process is complete, clean the Screen and stencil immediately and leave to dry.6. After drying, fix the fabric in the oven (8 minutes / 150 °C) or iron without steam for 3 minutes. After fixing, the fabric is washable up to 40 °C. TIPS AND TRICKS Removing finishes/pre-washing textilesBefore painting, new textiles have to be washed at least once without fabric conditioners. Fabric finishes and conditioners prevent the fibre from absorbing the paint. Colour fastness after fixing cannot be guaranteed in this case.Double-layer textilesWhen painting double-layer textiles (T-shirts or pillow cases), always place a piece of cardboard between the fabric layers to prevent the paint from seeping through. This also makes painting on fabric easier, particularly for children.Washing painted textilesAlways wash painted textiles inside out and use a mild detergent. Never place a hot iron directly on the painted area. Iron either from the reverse or through a cloth.Painting T-shirtsWhen painting T-shirts, simply slide a piece of cardboard underneath the fabric to prevent the paint from seeping through the layers. Printing with Marabu Textil PrintYou can of course use a number of colours for printing, e.g. the background can have a different colour to the print motif. The printing plate can also be rollered with several colours. A single motif can be printed in different colours. Work preparation for Marabu Textil Print:Cover the work area thoroughly.Place paper or film between the layers of fabric.Stir the ink well before use.The best results are achieved on 100% Cotton.The fabric needs to be free of any finishes and conditioners.Wash the fabric before use.Clean work tools immediately after use.Wash and iron printed fabrics inside out. Cleaning the screen printing frameIt is best to clean the screen frame immediately after printing, as long as the TEXTIL PRINT paint has not dried. Clean the mesh with clean water and, if necessary, a mild detergent with a nail or toothbrush on both sides. It is best if the frame is then carefully dabbed dry with a lint-free cloth, so that the wood does not distort due to the moisture.
