The Scribbled Rabbitfish (Siganus doliatus), also known as the Two Barred Rabbitfish, and Barred Spinefoot, can be found among reefs and lagoons of the western Pacific Ocean. They are a beautiful fish, with yellow/ green body, that is highlighted by blue lines and two strong diagonal black stripes through their eyes and the other behind the gills. Rabbitfish are relatively peaceful and will not likely harass other peaceful tankmates. As juveniles, Rabbitfish will frequently school but become more aggressive as adults as they establish their territory. Scribbled Rabbitfish reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. The Scribbled Rabbitfish will serve as part of the clean-up crew, as it will gladly consume hair algae, valonia, and red turf algae. Though considered reef safe, but can occasionally nip at large polyp stony corals as well as, some softer corals tissue when hungry, so it is recommended to ensure they are well fed. For this reason, you must proceed with caution if adding a Scribbled Rabbitfish to your reef tank. They should be fed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods. These foods include krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam and mussel. It is also a good idea to occasionally supplement with some type of herbivore diet. As well, use caution when placing hand in aquarium, as rabbitfish have venomous dorsal spines, capable of producing similar reaction to a bee sting.
