Give it a gentle rinse until the water runs clearer before adding it to the tank. Lay your bed. Add about 2 to 3 inches for rooted plants; deeper beds support bigger root systems. Fill gently. Set a plate or bowl on the substrate and pour water over it slowly so you do not stir up the bed. Expect a little cloud. Some cloudiness at first is normal and clears within a few hours to a day once your filter is running.
