Seachem PolyGuard Seachem PolyGuard is one of Seachem's strongest, broadest-spectrum medications — a blend of multiple antibiotics and antiparasitics (sulfathiazole, malachite green, and others) effective against a wide range of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases at once. It treats fin and mouth rot, ich (white spot), hemorrhagic septicemia, and fungus, which makes it the medication to reach for when you can't pin down exactly what's wrong or when a fish is fighting multiple infections. Good to Know: Because it's so potent, PolyGuard is best reserved for uncertain or severe cases — for a mild, clearly-identified problem, a gentler, targeted treatment is kinder. Reassuringly, it doesn't harm your biological filter, and it's easily removed afterward with activated carbon. A Caution for Shrimp & Snails: PolyGuard contains ingredients that are harmful to invertebrates — remove all shrimp and snails before treating, and don't use it in a planted shrimp tank. Always treat in a separate quarantine/hospital tank where possible. Dosing Guidelines: Remove invertebrates, turn off UV/ozone, and remove chemical filtration (carbon, Purigen). Use 1 included measure per 10 gallons, repeating every 72 hours for up to 2 weeks or until symptoms clear. Remove with carbon when finished.
