Seaflower Series Size 62" x 33" x 9" Material Mixed Media, Surfboards Original carved from surfboard noses and tails The Seaflower represents the merger of land and sea, and also t he life and culture here on the islands. The people of Hawaiʻi spend their lives between these two worlds, embraced by the endless beauty above and below the surface of the ocean. These sculptures are a fusion of my love of the plants and sea creatures that surround me, an imagined manifestation of the spirit of life here on the islands. I have used the noses, tails, and fins of retired and broken surfboards for these creations, reincarnating them into creatures of an imagined world.
