Sometimes in the antique field, you will run across an item that baffles everyone and this seashell dresser dish is one of those items. What I do know about this dish is I bought it in the early 80s at an antique action and it was being sold as an antique. In the 80s antiques had to meet certain requirements to be sold as an antique at an action. Not like today in which a ten-year-old item is sold as an antique. A company made this item and it is a numbered pieces there is two sets of numbers on the rim on the bottom, which is 6061, and what looks like741. It does have what looks like “GH.” which I do not know what that stands for. For decades, high quality items would have a numbered, the number would stand for a number of different reasons and they would be ether emboss or stamped on the item. There are other markings on the rim of the base, which I cannot determine what they are, because only part of whatever it is, is there. In most case, you do not fine makings or hallmarks on handcrafted items sold at a craft shop or made at a home shop. It has the appearance of being quality made, factory made, and factory finish with a high glaze finish. The coloring of the shell is under the glaze finish with what looks like hand painted gold trim around the base, which is also under the glaze finish. The colors, looks they were airbrushed on. Porcelain products in most case do not have a glazed finish bottom like this seashell or are not glazed in spots on the bottom in which the item would be sitting on a stand. After buying the dish, it was packed it away for 38+ years and I am the second owner of the dish. It is in mint condition with no cracks, chips, necks, fleabites, repairs, or stains. In addition, looks like it has never been used.
