Start hardware screw holes accurately and keep hinges, strikes, locks, pulls, and other door hardware lined up during installation. The spring-loaded guide centers the drill bit in the hardware screw hole so the starter hole begins in the correct location. After making the centered starter hole, remove the self-centering bit and follow with the proper predrill size for the screw and wood. This tool starts and centers the hole. It does not replace the full-depth predrill. Choose by screw size #3–4 screws — 5/64-inch starter drill #5–6 screws — 7/64-inch starter drill #8–10 screws — 9/64-inch starter drill #12 screws — 11/64-inch starter drill #14 screws — 13/64-inch starter drill Each option has a 1/4-inch hex shank for use in a drill or quick-change bit holder.
