This self-portrait draws from my Ghanaian heritage, with the face rendered in gold as a tribute to Ghana’s history as the Gold Coast. By leaving the face blank, I wanted the figure to become more than just me. It becomes a reflection of any Black girl, allowing others to see themselves within the work.
