This self-portrait of Egon Schiele’s is one earlier in his career, depicting a particularly youthful Schiele around the age of twenty. He depicts himself at a 3/4 facial view, gent ly glancing at onlookers with a subtle smirk. The stripes of his shirt remain on his sleeves only, as he omits the pattern on his chest for an intentional blankness. He renders the details of his face in muted reds, greens, and yellows.
