It is indicated for the short-term relief of constipation caused by reduced bowel motility and to help regulate bowel movements in conditions where softer stools are desirable, such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and proctitis. The laxative effect typically occurs 8–10 hours after administration, making it ideal for bedtime use with results expected the following morning.
