The most popular species in Australia — Senegal, Ornate, and Delhezi Bichirs — are hardy, fascinating predators known for their prehistoric appearance and lung-like breathing. They can gulp air at the surface and occasionally crawl using their pectoral fins. Bichirs prefer large aquariums with soft substrates, moderate flow, and secure lids. Mostly nocturnal, they’re best viewed under dim lighting, where their patterns and movements shine.
