Septarian, also known as dragon stone, is a unique type of concretion or nodule found in sedimentary rock formations, often containing cracks and cavities filled with minerals like calcite and aragonite.. These nodules are formed from trapped mud and organic matter, and the cracks are a result of pressure, desiccation, and the presence of volcanic activity. The name "septarian" comes from the Latin word "septum," meaning partition or dividing wall, referring to the cracks that separate the nodule's interior.
