The Sequoia tree produces thousands of cones, surprisingly small (around 2 inches) compared to the massive size of its host tree. Each cone has 30-50 scales, holding several seeds on each scale, averaging 230 seeds per cone. The cone seeds are dispersed within Sequoia groves with the assistance of insects, Douglas squirrels, heat and fires.
