St. Dymphna, a virgin martyr of the 7th century, stands as a powerful intercessor for those suffering from mental and nervous disorders. Born to a pagan king and a devout Christian mother in Ireland, she consecrated her virginity to Christ. Following her mother's death, her father, driven by grief and mental instability, sought to marry her. Refusing his incestuous advances, she fled to Geel, Belgium, accompanied by her confessor. Tragically, her father pursued her and, in his rage, beheaded her. Her unwavering faith and purity, even in the face of horrific violence, have made her a symbol of hope and healing for those afflicted with mental illness, and her shrine in Geel remains a place of pilgrimage and solace.
