Nara, Pal’s co-founder, lost her mom in November 2020, a short year after her terminal diagnosis of small-cell lung cancer. But this is not only a story about loss, it is about everything that happened before: the isolation and overwhelming responsibility that so many others felt at a time when support mattered most.What began as one family's experience, later turned into a much larger one, where more than 137 million families are praying for the price of a costly, inequitable and inefficient care space. As the world’s population ages and healthcare systems are unable to meet the growing demand via traditional means, at-home digital solutions become essentials. Pal is built to support the millions of people navigating serious illness, providing support at every step.Pal was co-created with more than 120 care recipients, caregivers and healthcare providers including palliative care doctors, nurses, GPs, and researchers. Engaging with participants from 15 different countries, we explored how our solution can be inclusive, flexible and scalable, ensuring Pal addresses users’ pain points and needs at a moment when support is needed.
