Shadowgate is an NES adventure game set inside the dangerous Castle Shadowgate. The quest centers on stopping the Warlock Lord before his black magic unleashes the Behemoth and des troys the world. The castle is filled with strange items, hidden keys, traps, and objects that can help or harm the journey. Death can come from a wrong move or dangerous object, giving the adventure a trial-and-error puzzle structure. The presentation uses illustrated room screens and menu-driven interaction inspired by interactive computer adventure games. Developed by ICOM Simulations, Inc., Shadowgate brought a computer-style fantasy adventure format to the Nintendo Entertainment System.
