Shapes and Shadows 90cm x 90cm, Framed in Black The line "O shapes, and shadows, and remembrances" appears in John Keats' poem "Hyperion". Specifically, it comes from Book I of Hyperion, an unfinished epic poem written in 1818-1819. This title reflects the painting’s ethereal quality, where soft greens, muted yellows, and gentle blues pay homage to a more traditional colour palette - one that feels timeless and poetic. The work evokes themes of memory, fleeting moments, and the delicate nature of beauty - hinting at more just beyond. The painting’s delicate lines and feathery brushstrokes create a sense of unfinished growth, with grasses and stems appearing both defined and dissolving, as if caught in a moment of gentle motion. This intentional incompleteness mirrors the way memories surface — fragmented yet full of feeling. By embracing subtle contrasts and quiet layers, Of Shapes, and Shadows, and Remembrances invites viewers to reflect on the transient beauty found in nature, art, and recollection — a delicate balance between presence and absence, permanence and change.
