This sheetmetal shelf file is intended to be laser cut from 10 gauge (.135") thick mild steel or stainless steel. You could go thicker but I would not go thinner with this geometry . I designed this shelf as a floating side table but it could be used in many applications. The many screw holes allow for freedom of placement, regardless of where the studs fall relative to your ideal install location. You will absolutely want to screw into at least two studs when installing this shelf. I would recommend using minimum 1.25" length screws, but no longer than 1.75". I would recommend having the shelves cut and bent from OshCut or SendCutSend if you are in the US. I have no affiliation to either companies, but love their services.
